Nowhere else on this site does a single node contain that range. Ash Flat is clay over dolostone almost everywhere. Newport is alluvium everywhere. Batesville is the boundary itself, and a septic design here depends on which side of it a parcel falls.

Clastic downtown, carbonate county

The two standard sources tell the story from opposite ends.

The state geologic map places the town centre on Mississippian clastics — Pitkin Limestone, Fayetteville Shale and the Batesville Sandstone. On that reading Batesville is not a carbonate town at all.

The soil survey says the single most extensive soil across the surrounding country is Clarksville at about 17 percent, formed in slope alluvium over residuum from cherty limestone and dolostone — carbonate parent material — with Noark, also cherty carbonate residuum, behind it. Both are right. The younger clastic rock caps the higher, flatter ground where the town was built; the older carbonate crops out on the slopes and in the valleys around it. Batesville is where the cap meets what it covers.

What this means if you only read one page

Batesville is the largest town in this area, so it is where most people start. The single most useful thing to take away is this:

There is no single answer for "septic in north Arkansas," and a source that gives you one has not looked at your parcel.

Within fifty miles of here the ground changes four times over. There is dolostone with real solution features and clay that will not accept water. There is steep cherty carbonate residuum where hard rock can appear at nine inches. There is Delta alluvium with no bedrock for twenty miles and a seasonal water table instead. And there is ground with a dense subsoil layer that perches water on flat, deep, stone-free land.

The reason it matters here specifically is that Batesville contains more than one of them. A quote for a hillside parcel off the highway and a quote for a river-bottom parcel are not comparable, and neither party is being unreasonable.

The practical consequence

Soil survey data put percolation limitations on about 64 percent of the country around Batesville and give roughly 86 percent a “very limited” rating for a conventional absorption field. River bottom, flat. Egam on 0 to 1 percent slopes is White River alluvium. Here the question changes entirely: not depth to rock but seasonal high water table, because saturated soil cannot treat effluent any better than rock can. The honest summary: flat is not easier, steep is not hopeless, and neither can be judged from the road. What settles it is a soil pit read by a licensed Designated Representative — and on ground this variable, a percolation rate from one hole is a particularly poor guide.
